Weston-Super-Mare Tour June 2005
Otherwise known as the "Final Frontier Tour". The tourists travelled the relatively short distance across the Severn Bridge for a tour around Somerset and based themselves in the Royal Pier Hotel, Weston-Super-Mare. The Royal Pier Hotel had a history of celebrity guests including Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, The Beatles in 1963 and finally Pentyrch Bowling Club in 2005. (Interestingly, our club has further connections with The Beatles through club member Keith Capron, who as a student vet at Liverpool University rented a room at John Lennon's mother's house. Keith and his student colleagues sometimes had their studies interrupted by the young Beatles practising their future world famous music) The hotel, sadly no longer exists after succumbing to fire in 2010 and its remains were then demolished. Pentyrch Bowling Club returned to Weston-Super-Mare in 2013 staying a few hundred yards away at Dauncey's Hotel.
The first match of the tour was at The Isle of Wedmore Bowling Club where despite incessant rain, the match went ahead. Some of the wiser tourists stayed indoors and played on the indoor green.
On Saturday we travelled to West Backwell Bowls Club, in North Somerset, on a day of improved weather.
The return to South Wales on Sunday was via Congresbury Bowls Club.
